I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners

of the Admiralty to transmit for the information of Mr. Secretary Amery a copy of a letter received from

the Commander-in-Chief, China Station, regarding the

arrangements made for the renewal of the charters in

respect of the armed launches "Onslaught", "Faulknor"

and "Nessus" for service on the West River.

My Lords have approved the Commander-in-

Chief's proposals, and he has been authorised to

conclude an agreement for twelve months if considered

desirable, provided that the Admiralty may terminate

it at one month's notice. As regards insurance,

My Lords have informed the Commander-in-Chief that

the Admiralty will not insure their share of liability,

but that there is no objection to the Colonial Govern-

ment doing so as regards their share.

A copy of a letter sent to the Commander-

in-Chief regarding the contribution to be borne by
